What is a psychotherapist?

In Ontario a psychotherapist is a trained mental health professional with a Masters Degree who helps people understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. They use evidence-based techniques to support clients in managing challenges such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, or life transitions. Psychotherapists provide a safe, confidential space for growth and healing. Devon has a Masters Degree is Counselling Psychology and is a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.

How do I know if I need therapy?

You might benefit from therapy if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or are struggling to manage emotions or daily life. If you have or are experiencing adverse, distressing or traumatic situations therapy can provide you with mental health and emotional support. Therapy can also help if you want to improve relationships, gain clarity, have a safe space to process your thoughts and feelings, as well as help you navigate important decisions.

How much does therapy cost?

Therapy costs vary by therapist, session length, and location. Devon offers compassionate sliding scale fees for those who qualify and direct billing for insurance. Let's discuss cost at a consultation or first session.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover therapy, especially for Registered Psychotherapists that are members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists as Devon is. It’s best to check with your insurance provider to confirm coverage, session limits, and reimbursement procedures.

How long will I need therapy?

It depends on your goals and situation. Some people benefit from a few sessions for a specific issue, while others choose ongoing support. We can discuss a plan customized to you and your hopes, adjusting as needed.

Is therapy confidential?

Yes. What you share in therapy is private, with a few exceptions related to safety (like risk of harm to yourself or others, or legal obligations). Devon will explain confidentiality and its limits in your first session.

Can therapy really help me?

Yes—research shows therapy can improve emotional well-being, relationships, and coping skills. Many people feel relief after just a few sessions and notice lasting positive changes over time.

What is the difference between online therapy and in-person therapy?

Research shows online therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions for many concerns, like anxiety, depression, stress, or relationship issues.

Online therapy offers convenience, comfort from home, and easier scheduling, which is great if you have a busy schedule or limited transportation.

In-person therapy can feel more personal for some people and may be better if you prefer face-to-face interaction or need a space completely separate from your home.

The best option is the one that feels most comfortable and accessible for you. Devon offers both in-person and online therapy.
